An improved high intensity wet magnetic separator is described having a horizontal rotor in the form of a heavy disc of highly magnetically permeable material surrounded by an annular member having a series of gaps extending vertically therethrough. Induced pole pieces are mounted in the gaps and a pair of diametrically opposed electromagnets are provided with pole pieces adjacent the rotor.
